Autism Spectrum Disorder

Kids Play Occupational Therapy

OT for Autism Spectrum Disorder

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a complex neurodevelopmental disorder. Children with a diagnosis of ASD often experience their world differently. They may have difficulty with verbal and non-verbal communication, social and emotional engagement, or have fixed, repetitive behaviours.

Skills for Independence

Every family’s experience of ASD is different. Our occupational therapists understand your challenges and work with your child to help them master skills and develop independence. A Kids Play children’s occupational therapist can help with:

  • Developing independence in daily living skills like going to the toilet and getting dressed
  • Developing fine motor skills for dressing, drawing, eating and play
  • Managing frequent meltdowns and tantrums
  • Improving poor attention and concentration
  • Reducing mealtime stress by introducing a bigger range of foods
  • Addressing behaviour concerns at home / kindy / prep / school
  • Developing writing skills and learning to use writing alternatives
  • Difficulties making friends or playing with other children
